Specialty Class Request
Performing in a solo, duet, or trio provides a dancer with an opportunity to enhance their technique in a way that is different from group class. There is a different level of artistic freedom and focus along with a higher level of performance responsibility and technical precision required of a solo/duet/trio dancer. For these reasons, all dancers who would like to have a solo, duet, or trio must have a minimum of two years dance experience in the style they wish to perform and they must continue to take at least one group class. Dancers wishing to perform their specialty class at competitions must also take ballet technique (recital performance not required).
Dancers who wish to have a solo, duet, or trio must complete an audition to be considered. Specialty classes will be awarded based on audition results as well as style/teacher requested. An audition is required so that we can fully and equally evaluate all requests with consideration for our limited teacher and time resources as well as preserving the flow of recital. By maintaining a balance between specialty classes and group performances, we can ensure that all dancers have the opportunity to shine and that our recital remains an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
